Keith Williams, a 56-year-old keen angler from Carshalton in Surrey, UK, has just had a fishing trip to remember.

His most recent trip in October (2013) to Gillhams Fishing Resort located in Thailand has been a very successful one.
On October 9, on his birthday, Keith landed a massive 61kg (134lb and 7oz) Siamese carp. It took him 25 minutes to reel this potential world-record fish to shore.

Stuart Gillham, the owner of Gillhams Fishing Resort, said: “Keith came out to stay with us with a group of friends to celebrate his 56th birthday. He told his wife that he could feel in his bones that he was going to catch a special fish that day.”

Stuart added: “His reaction was one of total shock – he said never in his wildest dreams did he imagine he would catch a world record. In the days after this capture Keith was walking around in a daze – he is still saying it has not yet sunk in.”

The fish was landed using a Free Spirit Cat Tamer Sport rod, Shimano XT-A Long cast reel, Gold Label Pro Tuf line, Catmaster Tackle Dyneema hook link and Korda wide gape hook.

The new record needs to be officially ratified by the International Game Fish Association.
