Big barbel for the River Trent

Several specimens for the Trent as barbel go on feed

Boloamp Tsurgi with the 15lb 11oz barbel

As Britain's big barbel go on feed, here are few latest catch records.

During a session on an undisclosed weir on the big Midlands waterway, Boloamp Tsurgi landed a giant barbel weighing in at 7.12kg (15lg and 12oz).

He said that it was the longest fight he had in a while. "Felt it in my arms", he said on his Facebook page.

The Stamford, Lincolnshire-based rod, Andrew Cunnington, landed a specimen barbel weighing in at 6.41kg (14lb and 2oz) at the A1 stretch of the River Trent using a pellet hookbait on a 4ft hooklink.

He said: "Other barbel of 10lb 4oz and 7lb 8oz as well as a 5lb chub all made for a memorable opening day session. All of the barbel fought hard, but the fourteen pounder was like a different animal all together."
