Jack Morrisson was reported missing on Friday afternoon after going fishing on lakes at Sutton-at-Hone, near Dartford, Kent.
The teenager’s body was found by rescue teams on Saturday after stretches of the water were sealed off to the public. Paying tribute, relatives of Jack said his “one true love” was spending weekends fishing.
He was also a keen footballer, playing for Volenti Football Academy in south-east London. As police said his death was not suspicious, his family described him as “like a beautiful angel” whose short life had brought joy and laughter.
A family statement said: “Although your life was short it was full. You had achieved so much and were on a path to success.
“The last year you had become so funny, constantly making us laugh, and thank you God for that, as we now have so many stories to share of your cheeky jokes. Our lives will never be the same now, without you here with us."
Friend Liam Luxford said Jack, of Fawkham in Kent, died doing a sport he “absolutely loved”.
He said: “Heaven has gained another angel. Jack was in a place he absolutely loved, doing a sport he loved doing. To think he is no longer here with us kills me.”
