Hilarious video of annual drunk fishing competition in Belgium

Video of the competition, which takes place in Belgium, shows a number of men looking worse for wear as they drink lager while trying to outdo one another in snagging the biggest fish.

Sinking beers while catching carp, this annual drunk fishing competition is a perfect example of why it's a bad idea to mix alcohol with lakeside hobbies.

For one man it all becomes a bit much as he trips and nosedives into the water before a colleague rushes to his aid.

Video of the competition, which takes place in Belgium, shows a number of men looking worse for wear as they drink lager while trying to outdo one another in snagging the biggest fish.

The crowning glory for the 'Fishing Wasted Championship' winner is the 'Booz Trophy'.

And so determined are the entrants to claim the trophy that one is even seen being sick after drinking to excess.

A man being interviewed says: 'That's Andy, he never drinks beer.

'But he wants to win the trophy.'

It is at that point the man who falls in is spoken to by the interviewer. He slurs his speech, telling the reporter it's 'a possibility' that he can win the trophy. But as a priority he adds: 'I would also like to catch a fish.'

He is told 'good luck' before stumbling forward into the lake, still clutching hold of his rod, before another man runs to grab his flailing leg.

The rescuer tries to pull the man out by his limb as fellow competition entrants laugh heartily.

The man in the water then splashes around before puffing out his cheeks and trying to compose himself.

He rests on the edge of the lake and eventually manages to haul himself from the water.
