Starter set up for sea fishing

24 June 2014 10:04
Hi all. I am looking to get couple of rods and try my luck at sea fishing. I will have an access to the beach on the south coast of UK (near Bognor Regis), and was thinking of spending a weekend down there, fishing from the beach.
What I am interested in is as follows:
- What tackle do you recommend? Rod, reel, line, end tackle, hooks, the whole lot!
- What bait? Is ragworm the only sensible bait?
- Is high tide best time, and is there any point fishing any other time?
- Do I cast as far as possible?

Thanks in advance

You will need a 12 ft beachcaster rod as for a reel I prefer a multiplier reel but they are not for the faint hearted as they take a bit of mastering you would be better with a fixed spool reel as they are more forgiving if you type in Pauls-angling supplies in ebay they have a beach/pier starter kit every thing you need including rigs for £24.95 plus postage.

As for bait rag worm is good but you can use peeler crab squid or a cocktail of the baits a mackeral flapper is deadly.

As for distance get the bait out as far as possible I use the pendulum swing myself and get out to 150 yds plus

The best times for fishing from the beach is 2 hours either side of high tide.

Get yourself a copy of sea angler that will give you advice on terminal tackle and what baits others use.

 Tight lines
